THE NETS GO ON

Head of Viticulture, Mike Saunders, and the team have been draping the nets as the fruit grows and our feathered friends begin circling...

"The first nets are rolling out into the Chardonnay this morning. As we hit veraison, the fruit composition changes, acids drop and sugars increase and grapes become tastier for birds, so the nets go on!

This is the same week we started last year, showing we are roughly on track with the season, possibly a week or so later, but with a good run of weather coming up we’ll be keeping a close eye on how the fruit is ripening.

Have a look at the line running down the middle of the net between the rows, the team should be keeping that nice and straight. Feel free to give them a thumbs up if you see them out and about. A day's netting is a physical battle, so encouragement is always welcome!"
