95 points - 2022 Halliday Wine Companion

“There’s something special about Broadvale Block 6. A small vineyard, planted on the crown of a hill sloping to the east with exceptionally uniform soil. The vines produce exceptional fruit and allow us to create a Chardonnay uncharacteristic of Margaret River.”

Ratings
0/ ‘Clone 95 has a far tighter and more linear palate shape and a distinctive citrus flavour profile. The acidity sits centrally on the palate, and the tail (or finish) is streamlined. Voyager Broadvale Block 6 is made entirely from Clone 95 and illustrates it perfectly.’ / Erin Larkin
Vineyard Notes
An unusually cool, late season with below average January temperatures contributing to a two-week delay in harvest. Moderate weather was perfect for steady ripening, with slow sugar accumulation, flavour development and natural acidity retention. Challenges included bird pressure and untimely humidity, however our meticulously and organically farmed vines produced outstanding wines.
Production Notes
2018: The 2018 vintage with its cool and dry ripening period for Chardonnay has produced a wine displaying  vibrancy and concentration, with the hallmark  flavours of lemon pith and limes, combined with an attractive chalky textural element. Magnificently balanced and texturally complex, the wine is still tightly wound and will cellar beautifully over the next 10+ years. Drink now - 2028 2017: One of our cooler, wetter growing seasons which delayed ripening at least three weeks, however allowed our Chardonnay fruit to ripen slowly, retaining excellent natural acidity.  The result is a tightly wound wine with a core of minerality and texture, lifted floral, pristine citrus mealy notes and a hint of spice. Drink now - 2027 2016: The cooler ripening period for Chardonnay in 2016 produced a wine displaying finesse and elegance, with delicate floral notes, aromas of lemon meringue and gunflint.  The hallmark  flavours of lemon pith and grapefruit come through on the palate, combined with an attractive chalky textural element so characteristic to this clone on our property.  Drink now - 2026 2015: The 2015 vintage with its warm ripening period for Chardonnay has produced an elegant wine displaying classic grapefruit, citrus notes with subtle stone fruit aromas and an attractive chalky textural element. Sensitive winemaking techniques and the use of French oak and 100% malolactic fermentation, have produced a wine which is restrained, complex and elegant. Drink now - 2025 2014: A more savoury style than previous vintages, the 2014 vintage takes some time to open and could possibly benefit from decanting.  Lemon blossom, lemon thyme and a slatey minerality characterise the nose, notes which follow through on the palate while a great acid line and mouth-filling texture show this wine will continue to age for years to come. Drink now - 2029 2013: Made entirely from French clone 95 from the warm ripening period for chardonnay in 2013.  Now drinking at its peak with pretty floral notes on the nose, classic lemon pith and grapefruit on the palate and an attractive chalky textural element.  A softer riper fruit profile than the vintages either side. Drink now - 2023 2012: Lime sherbet, floral and savoury aromas matched by an equally complex palate, creamy texture and a clean chalky mineral finish.  While this wine is approaching our initial cellaring potential of 10 years, it still shows bright fruit character and great structure, signs of its ability to continue ageing. Drink now - 2024 2011: The product of a consistently warm season with uncharacteristic humidity throughout ripening, the 2011 Project 95 Chardonnay is now displaying distinct developed notes of lanolin, honey and dried citrus peel with a lovely creamy soft texture. Drink now 2010: With pretty floral, citrus blossom, lime cordial and lime brulé notes, delicate oak derived character of pencil shavings, a toasty edge with some soft spice notes, this is one of the most beautifully balanced and well-integrated vintages of this wine from Broadvale Block 6.  A bright colour, a long acid drive and incredible complexity show this wine will continue to develop. Drink now - 2025 2009: 12 years on from our first vintage of this single block wine, it still drinks beautifully!  Now displaying a deep golden colour, the near-perfect growing season produced a wine of great complexity.  Fruit notes of warm lemon cake, soft white peach and golden kiwi fruit, hints of nuts and frangipani flowers, a delicate minerality and sherbet notes with a creamy, long textural finish. Drink now - 2022
