A cooler than average growing season commenced late with perfect flowering and excellent fruit set. The resulting potentially high yields were crop-thinned pre-veraison. Late summer and autumn were cooler and wetter than average, delaying the start of harvest. The milder ripening weather allowed for intense varietal character development, fine tannins and well balanced acidity.
2016: A near perfect growing season culminating in long autumnal ripening conditions provided pristine, expressive fruit for the 2016 Old Block Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine displays a complex array of floral, dark and red berry fruits and its characteristic earthy gravelly note combined with incredibly fine tannins which will have this wine ageing slowly over the coming decades. 2015: Low yields and a warm ripening period characterised the 2015 vintage, producing a wine of great richness and concentration. Rich ,dark spicy berry fruit, hints of bay leaf, dark chocolate and cedar. An earthy, gravelly note and silky fine tannins reflective of the Old Block vineyard give this wine its true sense of place.
2014: The consistently warm ripening period and cool nights afforded by the 2014 vintage produced a wine with great richness and concentration, yet displaying an elegance and balance which belies its age. A lifted, floral bouquet of red and dark berry fruits, dark chocolate,violets and cedar follow through on the palate in combination with a savoury earthy, gravelly note characteristic to the vineyard.
2013: A perfumed bouquet of vibrant summer berries and cherry blossom with hints of spice, earth and cedar. On the palate, sweet red and dark berry fruit with earthy gravelly notes and subtle hints of bayleaf and tobacco adding a savoury element to the wine. The wine is rich and complex with great length, structure and balance.
