Vineyard Notes
A close to perfect growing season with a warm and dry spring providing excellent conditions for flowering. One of our hottest Decembers on record, advancing fruit development. A slightly milder January was perfect for steady ripening and led to an
early red harvest. The fruit was picked in exceptional condition, with intense colour, concentration and silky, fine, soft tannins.
Production Notes
2019: An unusually cool, late season with below average January temperatures contributing to a delayed start to harvest, yet classic autumnal weather was perfect for ripening the reds. Yields were low, a benefit in a cooler, later season, and reds were picked in outstanding condition with developed flavour, good density and fine, ripe tannins.
2018: Was another consistent vintage. Excellent budburst across all varieties was followed by a delightfully warm November, perfect for a good fruit set. Summer was mild, leading into cool, dry conditions for harvest. Fruit ripened slowly, accumulating intense varietal flavours and bright natural acid, and was harvested under clear skies through March and April.
2017: A cooler-than-average growing season, the milder conditions allowed for a slow accumulation of varietal character, development of fine tannins and well-balanced acidity. A wine of great structure and complexity, displaying bright red and dark berry fruit notes, hints of cedar, black olive, dark chocolate, and a touch of bay leaf adding a nice savoury element. The 2017 is medium-bodied and drinks well now but will reward cellaring of up to 20 years. Drink now - 2037
2016: Pristine fruit and infinite drinkability characterise our Cabernets from the 2016 vintage. This is a medium-bodied wine with great structure, complexity and depth of flavour, helped along by a near-perfect growing season and an exceptional autumnal harvest period. Displaying dark berry fruit character, the gravelly, earthy notes so intrinsic to our region and excellent oak integration with hints of cocoa and cedar, the wine's balance, even at this early stage bode well for a long, elegant future.
