Ratings
0/ 'This is a remarkably tight and restrained wine at this stage, yet the colour is vibrant and brilliant, with an almost lustrous luminosity... It shows some rather tight, fine tannins, but there is loads of red fruit character to carry and balance... lightly leafy notes bringing another dimension.' / 97 points, Ray Jordan
Vineyard Notes
A tricky season commencing with good early season growth. A cool and wet November impacted fruit set and resulted in reduced yields. Early summer was hot and dry, then February brought more cool and wet conditions. Our organic farming, however, had the vineyard in terrific shape to deal with the challenges.
Production Notes
2018: Excellent budburst was followed by a beautifully warm November; ideal flowering and fruit set conditions. Summer was quite mild and one of our wetter Decembers, with just a few hot days. The warmer March weather saw reds ripen beautifully, and they were harvested under clear, sunny skies with ripe, concentrated flavours and excellent fine-grained silky tannins.
2016: From a near-perfect growing season, this is a complex, elegant and medium bodied Cabernet with a core of vibrant dark berry fruit, regional earthy, gravelly nuances and hints of cedar, cocoa, and nori seaweed. Supported by fine-grained tannins and seamlessly integrated French oak it has the perfect balance of aroma, flavour and structure which will ensure great longevity. Drink now - 2036.
2014: The perfect ripening conditions experienced during the 2014 vintage has produced a medium weight wine displaying purity and elegance. Complex aromas of red and dark berry fruits with hints of violets, dark chocolate, earth and cedar all follow through on the palate, also displaying regional earthy, gravelly nuances contributing a nice savoury textural element to the wine. A perfect balance of aroma, flavour and structure which will ensure great longevity.
Production
Hand-harvested fruit was de-stemmed to retain as many whole berries as possible, then fermented separately in open and upright fermenters with regular, gentle pump overs or plunging.
Parcels were pressed separately to barrel for maturation over 18 months in French oak, prior to bottling in October 2022.
