Ratings
0/ '...the wine is svelte and complex, smooth and silky, and it speaks of grapefruit, peach, preserved citrus and brine. Very good! The acid is fresh from this warm year, and the fruit wraps around the tongue like a glove' / 93+ points, Erin Larkin, Robert Parker Wine Advocate
Vineyard Notes
A near perfect growing season, aside from a small storm in late October which brought some wind and hail. Spring was warm and dry, followed by a very hot December. Milder conditions through January ripened the grapes nicely, and saw the team commencing harvest in early February. The chardonnay was picked first, with the fruit displaying pristine freshness, fruit concentration and bright varietal expression.
Production Notes
2019: An unusually cool, late season which provided perfect conditions for steady ripening, slow sugar accumulation, flavour development and acid retention. The result is an elegant Chardonnay displaying attractive floral and sweet lemon aromas, a fine vibrant citrus line driving the palate and delicate savoury layers of complexity. Drink now - 2029. 2018: A classic growing season for Chardonnay in which fruit ripened slowly, accumulating intense varietal flavours whilst retaining fresh natural acidity. This balance is at the core of the 2018 Chardonnay, a wine with incredible fruit weight, complexity and texture, built for longevity but drinks amazingly right now. 2017: One of the coolest and latest seasons we've seen in the region with harvest delayed some three weeks. The milder ripening weather allowed for the slow accumulation of intense varietal character - citrus, white peach, floral, hazelnut and the wine retained a vibrant citrus line, savoury layers of complexity and a fresh, saline minerality. 2016: An aromatic, complex, textured and elegant style of Chardonnay with lifted aromas of sweet citrus fruit and dried pear mingled with white floral nuances and hints of honeycomb. The textural palate displays vibrant citrus fruits with flavours of lime, lemon meringue, sweet grapefruit and hints of dried pears. The wine displays exceptional purity with an attractive savoury element, which contributes complexity to the palate, finishing with a clean saline mineral edge. Still youthful, cellar over the long term. 2015: Citrus and pear fruit with delicate white floral nuances. The textural palate displays fresh and vibrant citrus fruits in the lime, lemon pith and grapefruit spectrum with hints of tropical fruit and mandarin. The wine displays exceptional purity with an attractive savoury element, which contributes length to the palate, finishing with a clean flinty, mineral edge. drink now to 2025. 2014: A perfect ripening period for Chardonnay produced complex aromas of citrus fruit and pear with delicate floral nuances. A wine of great depth and purity, textural mid-palate with citrus fruits in the lime, lemon pith and grapefruit spectrum lead to a fine, balanced, mineral and savoury finish. Drink now or cellar over the long term. 2013: Attractive lifted citrus aromas with hints of spice, nougat and pistachio nuts. The textural palate displays fresh and vibrant citrus fruits with an attractive savoury element which contributes length to the palate, finishing with a clean flinty edge. 2012: A tight-structured wine displaying youthful pale lemon colour. Complex aromas of citrus, pear, floral notes and elegant savoury element follow through to a textural palate brimming with vibrant citrus fruits, great natural acidity and a long mineral finish. Will benefit from further cellaring. 2011: The product of a warm ripening season, this wine displays intense notes of citrus rind and sweet nectarine stone fruits countered by a slightly funky note. The palate follows through with classic grapefruit and peach notes together with layers of texture and a long acid finish. Drinks well now, but will continue to age. Drink now till 2024. 2010: From a near perfect growing season, this still incredibly fresh, complex and textural wine shows Voyager Estate's characteristic restraint. The purity of lemon pith and fresh juice notes is perfectly countered by a savoury, wet stone-like mineral edge and a long balanced length. 2009: A classic Margaret River Chardonnay with intense aromas of citrus fruits, grapefruit pith, savoury nutty notes and an elegant, flinty oyster-shell minerality. The textural palate is exceptionally long and intense, driven by a core of acidity that will ensure this wine's longevity. drink now - 2026. 2008: Displaying a soft golden colour, this is a round fruit-driven wine with layers of ripe apple and soft white peach through to a charry, nutty finish. Great drinking now but unlikely to improve with further cellaring.
