Harvest April 5, 2019
Not only have we been enjoying the beautiful Autumn weather – our grapevines have as well!
The past week has seen the team steadily harvesting our Shiraz, Merlot and a couple of early Cabernet Sauvignon parcels that we like to pick fresh and bright, in more of the red berry fruit spectrum.
We are delighted with the quality of the fruit we have in the winery so far. Our new clones of Merlot – Q45-14 and 181 are looking particularly impressive. The first crop of a new clone of Malbec also looks incredible with dark inky colour, perfumed aromatics and rich, fleshy fruit – perfect for blending into our Girt by Sea.
The ravenous Silvereyes, however, have been relentless and, daily flushing of our bird-netted vineyard is the norm this year.
The forecast ahead looks amazing. The team are very excited by the prospect of a week of warm weather which will put the finishing touches on our key Cabernet Sauvignon blocks. The Cabernet fruit looks terrific – it's in excellent condition on the vine and is starting to develop beautiful flavours and concentration.
I anticipate we will embrace this next spell of perfect autumn weather and continue our harvesting later next week as we push towards the finishing line!
