2010 Girt by Sea Cabernet Merlot

  • $24.00

Girt by Sea is the second Cabernet Sauvignon–dominant blend in the Voyager Estate range, designed to capture the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon and blend it to create a well-rounded, fresh and approachable wine. The soft, rounded mid-palate makes is perfect to be enjoyed upon release.

We took the title from our national anthem to acknowledge the life that Australia’s coastal climate gives to our land.

"Voyager Estate is one of the top flight producers from Margaret River. Its whites have been exemplary for a decade and the reds have shown distinct improvement over that time and now challenge the region’s finest."
Peter Forrestal, Quaff 2011
  • Voyager Estate Girt by Sea Cabernet Merlot is the second Cabernet Sauvignon blend in the Voyager Estate portfolio. Approachable in its youth, it presents a soft, rounded mid-palate with a subtle, lightly-structured tannin profile. The exceptional 2010 vintage resulted in a wine that displays excellent concentration of vibrant, summer berry, plum and cherry fruit with soft, silky tannins. Made to be enjoyed on release, this wine will also develop additional complexity over the short- to medium-term.

  • “Deep magenta; leafy notes offset the pure cassis aromas of the bouquet; on the palate the complexity continues to unravel, with olive, cedar and red and black fruits on display; a very high level of quality for the price.”

“If you’re a regular cabernet drinker, this one should be on your radar.

This is spot on for me. Medium-weight but not under-powered. Tannic but not challengingly so. Lengthy. Aromatic. It tastes of chocolate, pencils, gravel, gum leaves and a mix of mulberries and pure blackcurrant. It has cabernet written all over it, in a good way. It’s good to go now – but you could cellar it for seven or eight years, without a problem. What’s not to like?”

“A smooth and seamless medium-bodied cabernet blend.  Aromas of red berries and cedary vanillin oak.  The palate has a lovely even texture with fine grainy tannins.  The fruit is persistent and pure with a delicious suppleness.  A very drinkable and approachable wine.” Rating: 90/100
