Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
Margaret River is known world-wide for producing exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon and our Stevens Valley site was selected because it has some of the best gravelly slopes in the region.
Our 33-year-old Old Block and our younger “shining star” North Block, in particular, produce amazing Cabernet Sauvignon fruit. Fruit from these vineyards form the core of the Voyager Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot and are no doubt responsible for this wine’s heritage and consistency.

"The quality of Voyager Estate’s reds is so high that a lot of its regional neighbours reckon it’s not fair – it makes life too hard for them. Sounds like a red-drinker’s paradise to us."

Tasting Notes
Harvested during late March and early April 2008, this Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot was matured for 18 months in 50% new and 50% two-year-old French oak barrels. The exceptional 2008 vintage has produced a wine with a perfumed bouquet of cassis, mulberries and cherries with hints of chocolate, mocha and cedar. The palate displays sweet dark and red fruits, supported by fine, layered tannins with seamlessly integrated French oak. A wine of great complexity, elegance and finesse which will reward cellaring up to 15 years.

Reviews
"Deep-ish red-purple: excellent hue and freshness for its age at four years. Brilliantly intense, expressive bouquet of violets, cassis and blackberry, with crushed-leaf and nori/seaweed regional inflexions. Outstanding elegance and flavour: intensity combined with refinement. Very clean, with fine-grained, powdery tannins. A precision wine, which drinks superbly now and will age very well. The extra age before release is a bonus." Rating: 97 points.
Huon Hooke, www.huonhooke.com, July 2012
"Deep garnet; a complex array of aromas from cedar, cassis, cigar box and a touch of leafy interest; the palate is full bodied, fine and poised with polished tannins and fruit, working seamlessly together; the length of flavour is nothing short of staggering, and while a joy to drink as a young wine, patient cellaring will be well rewarded." Rating: 96 points.
