Steve James, Voyager Estate's Viticulturist, first became interested in viticulture when he was traveling through Europe 12 years ago. Upon returning to Australia he completed a Diploma of Applied Science in Horticulture, specialising in viticulture. Some of his experience prior to joining Voyager Estate includes working as a viticulturist at Stonier’s Winery, Mornington Peninsula, and Amberley Estate, Margaret River.

Since joining Voyager Estate, Steve has injected a considerable quantity of modern technology into the vineyard operations, improving canopy management, reduced the use of pesticides and chemicals, and built a quality team of experienced vineyard staff. His future plans include moving Voyager towards a more organic based vineyard, constantly searching for quality improvements, increasing research and development, and planting superior clones of existing varieties.
