Tom Price is the great-unsung hero of the WA iron ore
industry.
In the 1960s when Peter Wright and Lang Hancock
were struggling in their efforts to establish the industry
that made WA famous, Tom Price visited WA and saw what
he believed to be the great potential for Western Australia
to become a world player in the iron ore industry.
A man of remarkable character and imagination, he helped
put together the consortium that is now Hamersley Iron,
establishing one of the great mining houses of the world.
His visionary zeal coupled with an engineering background
resulted in unique mining technology being introduced,
making it possible to establish mining operations in
the harsh, inhospitable North West.
