2007 Collection Merlot NEW RELEASE
VOC Collection wines are single vintage wines, available through cellar door and mail order
only, and offer you the chance to stock up on something a little different from the Voyager
Estate vineyards. When the winemaking team identified the outstanding flavour profile of the
Merlot in 2007, the opportunity to create something special could not be missed. The result is
an outstanding varietal Merlot with fleshy, red fruit flavours and the soft texture so typical of
the variety.
Wine consultant Gary Baldwin gave us his comments:
“I have occasionally seen a Merlot in this country that rivals the best from the right bank of
Bordeaux, but not too often. The good ones have red berry fruit that is a little softer or less intense
than Cabernet. It also tends to have a hint of earth or potato and sometimes herb, but always with
a certain rounder mouthfeel: a different texture. The Voyager Estate 2007 VOC Merlot has these
characters. It is something special! Many of the individual Merlot wines available in this country
tend to be too “blocky” and look like over-ripe Shiraz but in this one we have wine that is true to
type.”
We encourage you to try the 2007 VOC Merlot as VOC Collection wines are very limited in quantity
and hard to repeat. This is a rare opportunity to gain a better insight into the subtleties of this
lovely variety. See the enclosed order form for details.
2006 Collection Semillon
2006 was a stunning vintage for whites, so much so for Semillon that we made a vintage
varietal for our VOC Collection with the expectation of longevity in mind. This wine is the result
of hand-selected fruit from our best block of Semillon vines, low alcohol and no pressings. This
wine is 50% barrel-fermented and matured for 9 months in a combination of Russian oak for
spice and French oak for structure. Still amazingly fresh, the 2006 VOC Semillon is destined
to become a classic aged white wine. The primary fruits of lime, straw and citrus are making
way for some wax, honeysuckle and toast. A great wine from a great year, this wine will age
effortlessly for at least another 10 years. Enjoy with almost any seafood.
2008 Chenin Blanc
The fresh, fruit-driven palate offered by this easydrinking,
aromatic wine has citrus, guava and
passionfruit exploding out of the glass. Made from
the oldest vines on the Estate, Nick Stock says, “One
of the leading makers of this under-rated grape in
Australia, Voyager is sitting on a reserve of vines more
than 30 years old. With fresh melon fruit, banana and
honeysuckle, this is ripe and fleshy with just enough
acid to keep the sugar in check. Like a liquid fruit
salad.” WBM 100, February 2009.
2008 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon
The 2008 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is an ‘absolute
cracker’ according to the winemaking team. The classic
blend of 55% Sauvignon Blanc and 45% Semillon has
a nose of gooseberries, lychee and white peach, with
freshly cut grass and citrus fruits. The characteristic
palate full of stone fruits and melons, with a limey
intensity and tight acidity, offers a very persistent and
lingering finish.
2007 Girt by Sea Cabernet Merlot NEW RELEASE
Succulent and juicy, the 2007 Girt by Sea is a blend
predominantly of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This
bright wine displays juicy blood plum and blackberry
fruits with a soft, earthy infl uence that can be attributed
to the Merlot component. Subtle spice and vanillan oak
overtones combine with approachable tannins to offer
a lovely texture and a long, clean finish. The palate
reveals classic fresh Cabernet fruit, showing the full
array of dark berries and briary chocolate notes. Fine,
earthy tannins taper to a well structured and clean
finish.
2006 Chardonnay
Ray Jordan’s WA Wine Guide 2009 is a comprehensive
assessment of more than 870 wines. With a rating of
94 points, this is how he described Voyager Estate 2006
Chardonnay: “Sensational follow-up to the 2005, which
I also liked a lot. Power and complexity with barrel
ferment influence quite evident. More powerful and
intense than some previous vintages but maintains
that wonderful mineral crisp delicacy. The grapefruit
and cereal influence adds to the palate complexity.
Lovely wine.”
2006 Shiraz
Jeremy Oliver described this wine as, “Fine-grained and
savoury, with a smoky fragrance of cassis, blackberries
and raspberries with peppery, spicy undertones
handsomely backed by spicy, perfumed French oak.
Its smooth cultivated palate of piercingly fresh and
alluring cherry/plum fruit knits tightly with smoky
oak and polished, crunchy tannin. It finished long and
vibrant, with lingering meatiness.” Rating: 95 points / 4
stars. The Australian Wine Annual 2009.
2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
Chosen by both Nick Stock and Bert Werden as their
Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot of the year, this highly acclaimed
wine is developing beautifully in bottle.
Wonderful black fruits and chocolate on the nose
lead to a rich, soft palate with sweet blackberries
and chocolate. Over the past 6 months the wine has
developed and further softened. Hints of earth and
tobacco are starting to develop and compliment the
soft, juicy dark fruits. Drinking beautifully now, this
wine will age for at least a further 10 years.
2005 Tom Price Sauvignon Blanc Semillon
NEW RELEASE
In 1996 the winemakers at Voyager Estate created the
first of the more serious styled SBS/SSB wines made in
Margaret River, a wine known today as Tom Price White.
The 2005, made for a later release, is four years old
and still looking as fresh as if it were bottled yesterday.
This wonderful, young wine is just starting to reveal its
true identity. Lifted Sauvignon Blanc fruits and fresh
acidity make this the perfect food wine. Made for long
cellaring and bottled under screw cap, this style is a
rare treasure. The 2005 can be put away indefinitely
and over time will develop signifi cant complexity.
2004 Tom Price Cabernet Sauvignon
The philosophy behind the Tom Price wines is that they
are made from blocks that deliver amazing fruit in
exceptional vintage years. It has been nine vintages
since the last Tom Price Cabernet Sauvignon and this
proves that the wait is well worth it. The 2004 Tom
Price features dark succulent fruits, velvet tannins and
a soft yet powerful finish. This is a classic wine made
in an old Bordeaux style. Our winemakers have simply
given the fruit the lead and acted as caretakers, thus
allowing the fruit to evolve from its natural origins into
an exceptional wine.
