A priceless dinner with tom

Langtons On an evening in August, Voyager Estate held a dinner to celebrate a rare occurrence; the release of two Tom Price wines: Tom Price 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon and Tom Price 2005 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon.

Hosted by Michael Wright, the 5-course dinner achieved an unsurpassed level of excellence in wine as well as food presentation. Cliff Royle, Senior Winemaker, who has a renowned passion for these exclusive wines, was able to share the raison d'être behind the crafting and vintage conditions that are conducive to producing a Tom Price wine. Another highlight of the evening took place when Nigel Harvey, Executive Chef, demonstrated how the dishes were assembled, and explained the reasons why they were chosen to match a selection of Voyager Estate wines, including the stars of the show, Tom Price 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon and Tom Price 2005 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon.

Evenings with Tom and the like are planned to be memorable. To be included in future memorable evenings, we invite you to join our VIP dinner list. Joining our VIP dinner list gives you the opportunity to receive a priority invitation to special Voyager Estate wine and food events. Simply send us an email with your name, address and contact details to restaurant@voyagerestate.com.au and mention VIP dinner lists so that we can ensure you receive an invitation to the next unforgettable event.

Re-vegetation volunteers

Langtons The South West corner of Western Australia is regarded as one of the most bio-diverse regions on the planet. However, human activity has taken its toll in many locations throughout the region.

In an attempt to redress the balance, the Environmental Management Team at Voyager Estate has been progressively re-vegetating our winter creek lines and other sites with native plants since June 2006. In forming a relationship with the Cape to Cape Catchments Council, we were supplied with much needed expertise, knowledge and funding for fencing and trees.

So, on a wet and rainy day in September, over 30 volunteers including staff, family and friends came together for our latest project: to plant a massive 2400 seedlings, including Kangaroo Paws, Peppi, Jarrah and Tea trees. Approximately 23,000 plants have gone in the ground since June 2006 thanks to the many re-vegetation volunteers. All thought it was well worth weathering the storm to have a positive impact on the future.

"Great men have great dogs"

Langtons We are delighted to celebrate the hard-working (and adorable but not so hard-working) dogs of Voyager Estate in the fourth annual '2009 Wine Dogs of Voyager Estate' calendar. The 28 pages of expert photography by Craig McGill, of Giant Dog publications, highlight the personality of our favourite pooches amongst the vibrant backdrop of Voyager Estate. The calendar also honours Ken Palmer and his dog Spike, who both sadly passed away during the year. We were lucky enough to have had such a great man with such a great wine dog on our team.

To own a whole year of canine wine characters - a great Christmas gift at only $19.95, order the '2009 Wine Dogs of Voyager Estate' calendar from Voyager Estate Cellar Door. Call (08) 9757 6354 or email merchandise@voyagerestate.com.au.

Cossack art award

Langtons Now in our fifth year as sponsors, Voyager Estate was proud to again be involved in the 16th Cossack Art Award. Hosted annually in the small town of Cossack in the remote Pilbara region of Western Australia, the Cossack Art Award is Australia’s richest regional art prize and is the most isolated art exhibition in the world.

The 2008 Award was judged by Judith Blackall, Head of Artistic Programs for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney. Voyager Estate’s sponsored category, Best Artwork by a Western Australian artist, was won this year by Roebourne-based artist, Allery Sandy, for her painting titled ‘After the rain’. In keeping with tradition, Allery also kindly provided artwork for the Voyager Estate Imperial to be auctioned at the Langton’s Great Wine Estates of Western Australia auction (see pages 4 and 5). Congratulations Allery!

Hot off the press

Langtons MAGNUM is worth the paper it is written on, literally. The recent Printing Industries Craftsmanship Awards WA 2008 celebrated excellence in the print, packaging and visual communication industry in Western Australia, and recognised the special efforts of printers by awarding their best work. The company responsible for the printing of the most recent MAGNUM magazines, Pacific Printing Co., was successful in six out of the six categories it entered, achieving three gold awards, one silver and two bronze. MAGNUM magazine won an award in one of the most competitive categories called “Stapled Booklets, Catalogues & Brochures” and it has now an automatic entry into an Australia-wide competition. Our thanks to the team at Pacific Printing Co. for producing such a high quality publication, and we wish them the best of luck.
