Awards for wine excellence can come in many ways and from many different sources. Wine bottles adorned with medals of gold, silver, bronze - you can be forgiven for thinking the wine Olympics are an every day occurrence. Whilst being recognised amongst wine industry peers is always an honour, there are some awards so close to our hearts that they make us particularly proud and are the ones we love to share.
The 90km of spectacular coastline in the South West of Western Australia stretches from the northern point of Cape Naturaliste to the southern tip of Cape Leeuwin and is known as the South West Cape to Cape region. The Cape to Cape Catchments Group is one of 21 members in the South West working in partnership with government agencies, landholders, educational institutions, industry associations and community groups to coordinate natural resource management in the Cape to Cape region. This group coordinates the protection of land, air, bush, rivers, flora, fauna, people, culture, coastal and marine resources for the benefit of existing and future generations.
Voyager Estate is therefore proud to be honoured with the "Wine Industry Initiative Award" for its outstanding environmental work in the inaugural Cape to Cape Catchments Group, Catchment Care Awards. In competition with five other well-known Margaret River producers, the Catchment Care Award judges recognised Voyager Estate’s environmental practices as demonstrating ‘best practice’ sustainability initiatives which exceed minimum industry standards addressing energy efficiency, water conservation, water quality, waste minimisation, sustainable land management practices and protection of biodiversity values.
Glen Knight, who leads the Environmental Management Team at Voyager Estate, explained, "The judges not only considered our re-vegetation program and new winery waste water treatment facility but also took into account our recycling initiatives, pest and weed control and the use of green energy. We are delighted that our efforts towards becoming a fully sustainable business have been recognised at this early stage."
By being honoured with the "Wine Industry Initiative Award", Voyager Estate is recognised for protecting the soil, water and climate, as well as native flora and fauna, which are the foundations of our business and for a sustainable future. We are delighted to share this recognition with you, our Voyager Estate friends.
