Something to sing about.
'Tristan und Isolde', one of the most emotionally gripping operas
ever written and arguably Richard Wagner's greatest work, is being
performed by the West Australian Opera company at His Majesty's
Theatre in Perth during November 2006. In celebration of this
unique event, Voyager Estate has embarked on our first ever commemoratively
labelled wine: Voyager Estate 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 'Tristan
und Isolde' 1.5lt magnum.
'Tristan und Isolde' will herald West Australian Opera's 40th
year and is a significant undertaking for the company. It is also
the first staged performance in WA of a major Wagner production.
The opera is set in the legendary Celtic world of the early Middle
Ages and tells the tragic love story of Tristan, a Breton nobleman,
and Isolde, an Irish Princess.
As part of our ongoing support of the arts in Western Australia
we are delighted to offer you the chance to purchase one of only
100 bottles produced of this uniquely presented wine. To do so,
please complete and return the MAGNUM order form. This wine is
extremely limited and will be sold on a first come, first served
basis.
Cossack art awards.
As a post-script to our feature in MAGNUM #15, we are delighted
to announce that Pilbara artist Marine James (Murinba) won the
Best Overall Artwork at the 2006 Cossack Art Award for her painting
'Regnard Bay'. Marine was one of six artists from the Pilbara
region of north-west Western Australia who were invited to show
their art in Florence in February. It was the first ever exhibition
of its kind and was combined with the signing of a Pact of Brotherhood
between Florence and the indigenous peoples of the Pilbara.
Marine has been painting for about three years and this was only
her second time entering the Cossack Art Award. Marine says she
gets great joy from painting and the opportunity it gives her
to tell her stories.
Voyager Estate sponsored the Best Artwork by a WA Artist prize
which was awarded to Jane Martin of Cottesloe for her painting
of the Stirling Ranges in Western Australia. Previously successful
at Cossack, Jane won the Best Overall Artwork category in 2005.
The Cossack Art Award, Australia's richest regional art prize,
is held every July/August in the tiny, historic Pilbara town of
Cossack. Entry is open to all and it is the most isolated art
show in the world.
Saffire.
Everything old was new again for Saffire's national tour promoting
their latest album - Renaissance - and we were delighted to host
two concerts at Voyager Estate recently. The Renaissance tour
featured a selection of original 16th Century pieces. However,
true to the quartet's ARIA award-winning reputation, Saffire also
mesmerised the audience with an eclectic mix of contemporary arrangements.
The quartet play a range of stringed instruments including classical
guitars, dobro, baritone and octave guitars, as well as a brilliantly
mastered steel string component by newcomer Leonard Grigoryan.
Guitarist, Karin Schaupp, commented, 'What a treat to play at
the beautiful Voyager Estate. The cathedral ceilings in the dining
room make it perfect for chamber music. It's wonderfully memorable.'

Filling big shoes.
After the hype surrounding the 2001 vintage and the very recent
success of the Voyager Estate 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot,
named best Australian Cabernet Blend by James Halliday, our new
vintage release has a lot to live up to. Fortunately, the first
wine writer to see the wine, James Halliday, has already given
it 95 points so it's off to a great start.
2003 was another classic vintage in Margaret River. A hot, dry
growing season and ideal warm and dry ripening conditions ensured
our Cabernet grapes were harvested with beautifully ripe skins
and seeds. For the wine connoisseur this means fine, elegant tannins
offering structure, longevity and an exquisitely balanced, supple
mouthfeel.
Released on 1 November, this wine will be available in leading
restaurants and bottleshops. However, if you would like to be
one of the first to try it you can order directly from us on the
MAGNUM order form enclosed.
