A day of classic surf conditions at a local reef break set the scene for the
fifth annual Margaret River Inter-Winery Cup: a friendly battle between
local premium wineries designed to relieve post-vintage tension and
celebrate the rich surfing culture present in the region. Teams included
Voyager Estate, Vasse Felix, Devil’s Lair, Xanadu and Leeuwin Estate.
Greeted with glassy 4-5 foot waves and light offshore winds, Andrew
Gradisen, Voyager Estate’s Assistant Vineyard Manager, surfed first,
posting solid scores. Darren Johnson, man of many talents in the
Voyager Estate vineyard and winery, followed in style claiming ‘Best
Barrel’ of the day with two high scoring tube rides. This dream start
gave the team the confidence they needed. Voyager Estate dominated
the competition with consistent performances to successfully defend the
title and notch up their third win over the history of the event.
